SA looking forward to CIV clash

South African Football Association chief executive Robin Petersen says they are delighted to have secured Africa's number one team for the Nelson Mandela Challenge on November 12.

The game which will be played at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth, is expected to feature CIV heavyweights like Didier Drogba, Salomon Kalou, the Toure brothers Yaya and Kolo as well as Gervinho.

Joel keen on Olympic team

Inter Milan midfielder Joel Obi is keen on turning out for the Olympic Team at next month’s CAF Under-23 tournament in Morocco.

The 20-year-old is already a full international, having earned eight caps under Samson Siasia, but remains eligible to play for the Under-23s.

Olympic team coach Austin Eguavoen arrived in Italy on Wednesday in continuation of his tour of European clubs to secure the release of players for the Eight-Nation championship.

Ghana's local talents need Africa, Stevanovic

Ghana coach Goran Stevanovic has hailed the quality of the Ghana Premier League after watching some recent matches in Accra.

The Serbian promised to continue giving local players a chance in the national team, but reckoned that the players will more competitive if they played more regularly in continental club competitions.

"The door to the national team is wide open all the time and it is never shut on local players," Stevanovic told Ghana Football, the GFA's official newspaper.

Andre becomes a dad - Report

Olympique Marseille midfielder Andre 'Dede' Ayew has become a first-time father, according to a report on Ghanasoccernet.com.

The 21-year-old winger's girlfriend reportedly had a baby girl at a hospital in France two weeks ago.

Andre was said to have announced the birth to his daughter to his mother by telephone while his legendary father Abedi Pele Ayew is thought to be with the young couple in France.

Musona, Obasi net in Hoff win

Zimbabwe striker Knowledge Musona scored his first goal for German side Hoffenheim Tuesday, as they came from behind to beat FC Koln 2:1 in the second round of the DFB Pokal Cup.
