Ghana's local talents need Africa, Stevanovic

Ghana coach Goran Stevanovic has hailed the quality of the Ghana Premier League after watching some recent matches in Accra.

The Serbian promised to continue giving local players a chance in the national team, but reckoned that the players will more competitive if they played more regularly in continental club competitions.

"The door to the national team is wide open all the time and it is never shut on local players," Stevanovic told Ghana Football, the GFA's official newspaper.

"We have already given some local players the opportunity to be in the national team. The likes of Ernest Sowah, Nathaniel Asamoah, Emmanuel Clottey, Daniel Agyei and Mohammed Awal have been invited and we will continue to give others who impress the opportunity.

"I'm very pleased with what I have seen in the league. It's a very quality and interesting league. It's competitive with a lot of talented players.

"The players will benefit a lot if the clubs play regularly in the African club competitions. By playing in Africa they will have a lot of international exposure which will aid their development."

Ghanaian clubs have fared poorly on the continent in recent years and the country's representation has resultantly been cut in half by CAF.
